GEO & UNCG Scholarships

GEO Travel Grantgeo
All UNCG students planning to participate in a UNCG Study Abroad Program are invited to apply for a Travel Grant Award. Students do not need to have already applied to study abroad in order to apply for a Travel Grant.  The award will be provided to you as a reimbursement on the term you study abroad, so it will be important to have direct deposit set up with the Financial Aid Office.

Travel Grant Awards typically average around $600.  The grants are funded by generous donors to UNCG specifically for study abroad participation.  Award amounts are calculated based on a number of factors including but not limited to financial need, academic area, Honors College standing, and other parameters set by the donors of the various funds. Note that Honors College students are required to submit this travel grant application to receive their travel grant.

There are two application deadlines: October 31 and March 31. The application will go live here: go.uncg.edu/GEOtravelgrant
  • Fall application cycle opens September 1 and closes October 31st.
  • Spring application cycle opens February 1 and closes March 31st.

Travel grant awards are one per student.  You only need to fill out the Travel Grant Application once.  The only students who are not eligible for a travel grant are those who are already receiving a UNCG scholarship specifically designated for study abroad expenses (i.e., Sloan, Reynolds).  Your actual travel grant amount will be calculated after you successfully complete the study abroad application process and are preparing to depart.

TRAVEL GRANT FAQS:

  • I already received a travel grant award letter from a previous cycle.  Do I need to reapply?

No.  Starting in 2024, travel grant awards will not have an expiration

  • I'm a Lloyd International Honors College student.  How do I confirm eligibility and get my higher award?

Eligible Lloyd Honors College students will receive a travel grant award of $1,100.  This award replaces the GEO travel grant.  All LIHC students need to do to receive the higher award is meet the eligibility requirements and complete a travel grant application.  No further action is needed.  Eligibility requirements can be found here (scroll down to the Honors Travel Grant section to see the 5 requirements).  For questions about LIHC travel grant eligibility, contact Kaitlyn Anderson at kvwillia@uncg.edu.

  • If I already used a travel grant on a previous study abroad program, can I get another one?

No, unfortunately the travel grants are one per person.  If you are eligible for multiple study abroad scholarships/travel grants, you may only receive one and it defaults to the highest value award.
