Welcome to Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a nation of 4.5 million people and is the second oldest democracy in the hemisphere. It has high rates of literacy and safe drinking water throughout the country.
It has an outstanding health care system and low rates of infant mortality. Costa Rica has low rates of crime and friendly people who welcome visitors.
The school of Health and Human Sciences offers an exciting summer program that will help students increase their knowledge to work with Latin American people. In cooperation with the Centro Panamericano de Idiomas (CPI), students will explore the culture of Latin America through intensive interaction with Costa Rican families, social agencies, and focused language training. All students will stay with selected Costa Rican families in Heredia (near San Jose), in the cloud forest of Monteverde and in Flamingo Beach. There will be several special trips to unique ecological and cultural sites. Students will receive 6 credit hours for this experience.
