Summer - ISA San Jose, Costa Rica: Environmental Studies, Health Care, Liberal Arts & Spanish Language

Overview

Explore Costa Rica’s exquisite natural surroundings, vibrant culture, and cosmopolitan cities through an academic lens! This exciting summer program is open to UNCG students who want to complete general electives in environmental studies, health care and liberal arts. It is also an excellent option for students looking to advance their Spanish language proficiency.

Academics

Hosted at Universidad Veritas, this summer program offers a variety of general elective courses in communications, geography and environmental studies, health and exercise science, international studies, literature, intensive Spanish language, natural sciences, visual and performing arts, and more. Students studying Spanish are expected to enroll in a 60-hour course, while those pursuing other electives will enroll in 48-hour or 60-hour courses during the program.

UNCG students can earn between 7-8 credits during this program. Available summer tracks for this run from late May - late July, late May - early July, and early July - mid August.

In addition to academic courses, this summer program also offers a service-learning option that allows students to serve alongside a local organization and engage in reflective assignments. Service-learning will develop your intercultural competency skills and increase your understanding of social issues in your host community. The service learning option runs from late May - late July.

Housing

Different housing options available to students include homestay and independent housing. More details can be found on each summer track (refer to academics section above)’s housing page.

  • UNCG Study Abroad Application Fee             $350
  • Mandatory UNCG Int’l Health Insurance      $100

  • UNCG requires all students to have international health insurance while they are abroad. Host institutions may require students to purchase additional insurance.
