Practical Information

Transportation

Barcelona is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Spain. The metro is an easy way to get around the city and is very user-friendly. Spain also has a rail and bus system that connects not only Spain but the rest of Europe. Barcelona also has an international airport which is perfect for jet-setting off across Europe!

Student Activities

City tours
There are a number of Free Tours available for Barcelona. One such tour is Sandeman's New Europe which runs every day. The tour allows people to see Barcelona's greatest attractions and learn a little about the city's history in a condensed 3-hour tour.

FC-Barcelona
Barcelona is famous for its famous soccer team, FC (football club) Barcelona. For Catalonians, the team is "more than just a club" and works in the community doing charity and other services.

The Language
Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia, one of the five autonomous districts in Spain. It has two official languages, Castilian (Spanish) and Catalan (roughly a combination of Spanish and French). Public signs, shop displays, and menus are usually in both languages. However, there are many internationals living in the city and English is easily used.
